Young rapper Young J explains how his
journey started and where he hopes it leads to
How are you, how has your day been?
‘Not too bad, I’m ready to discuss my
journey into the Hip-Hop industry’.
What sparked your passion into loving Hip-Hop music?
‘Ever since I was a small, Hip-Hop was all i knew and it was the one and only genre that made me stop whatever I was doing and
start dancing and singing or rapping along to’.
What was the first record you bought?
‘Late Registration from Kayne west, I was only 10 years old
when I bought it, so this record is a piece of memorabilia and I still listen
to it from time to time’.
Who’s the person you’ve met with the worst music taste?
‘This has to be my brother-in-law. He showed me his
playlist and all of it was Rock and Punk music, its definitely not my type of
music. All I heard was a lot of shouting’.
What’s the best advice a musician has ever given you?
‘A few months ago, at the Hip-Hop appreciation ceremony in
Orlando, Florida I met Kayne West for the first time and he actually told me a
few things about his journey into his Hip-Hop career. H e said to always be
truthful in your music and relate to your own life experiences. If you were to
ask me if I had any tips for aspiring musical artists, I would repeat Kayne’s
advice and add that you need to put in hard work, make sure you keep at it and
you will need a little bit of luck’.
What made you want to be a musician?
‘I fell in love with music at a very young age and it was my
go to thing in my spare time. I also enjoyed creating short songs after school.
Being a musician is my dream job, and I’m so grateful to be doing it.
